Expert Witness (Intellectual Property)

Dr. Ron Bihovsky, President of Key Synthesis, has extensive experience as an organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry consultant, expert witness, and fact witness. He has consulted for intellectual property law firms on numerous Hatch-Waxman pharmaceutical patent litigations involving generic drugs and patent validity. He has been deposed, and has testified in several high-profile pharmaceutical patent cases with favorable outcomes.

Dr. Bihovsky specializes in pharmaceutical patent cases requiring laboratory investigation. He performs experimental work in the Key Synthesis chemistry laboratory located near Philadelphia, which is fully equipped to conduct custom organic synthesis and chemistry research. He also conducts patent searches and literature searches on prior art through access to the world-class academic libraries of Philadelphia.

Prior to founding Key Synthesis in 2001, Dr. Bihovsky was employed as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry and in academia as a professor of organic chemistry. He has a broad knowledge of organic and medicinal chemistry, and excellent oral and written communication skills.  Dr. Bihovsky has considerable patent experience. He wrote the genus and examples for the 16 US patents he was granted (as well as a pending application) and worked closely with patent attorneys and patent agents to construct the claims.

Dr. Bihovsky earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and was an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Bihovsky served as Chairman and Treasurer of Chemical Consultants Network, a non-profit organization of consulting chemists. He currently serves on the organization’s steering committee.
